Marathon pace calculation
A 4-hour marathon is 42.195km in 4 hours = 10.55 km/h = 5:41 min/km pace. Use this calculator to find your target pace for any race distance and finish time.

How to use this calculator

1

Choose what to find

Select Speed, Distance, or Time — the input fields update to ask for the other two.

2

Enter known values

Use the unit dropdowns to match your input units — km, miles, metres, hours, minutes, seconds.

3

Read all outputs

Result shown in km/h, mph, m/s, and running pace simultaneously.

The formula explained

Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Distance = Speed × Time
Time = Distance ÷ Speed

All three variables are related by these simple formulas. This calculator handles unit conversion automatically — enter km and hours, or miles and minutes, and results appear in all common units simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate average speed?

Average speed = Total distance ÷ Total time. Select "Speed", enter total distance and total time. For a trip of 240km in 3 hours: 240 ÷ 3 = 80 km/h.

What is pace vs speed?

Speed = km per hour (how far in one hour). Pace = minutes per km (how long per km). Runners use pace — e.g. 5:30 min/km. 10 km/h = 6:00 min/km pace.

How do I convert mph to km/h?

Multiply mph by 1.60934. So 60 mph = 96.56 km/h. This calculator does the conversion automatically.

How long does it take to drive 100km at 80km/h?

Time = 100 ÷ 80 = 1.25 hours = 1 hour 15 minutes. Select "Time", enter 100km and 80 km/h.

If I drive 120 km in 1.5 hours, what is my average speed?

Speed = Distance / Time = 120 / 1.5 = 80 km/h. This is average speed — it accounts for stops, acceleration, and deceleration throughout the journey.
