Paste any YouTube video URL and download its thumbnail in multiple resolutions — HD (1280×720), HQ (480×360), and SD. Free, instant, no software needed.
Paste the full YouTube video URL (youtube.com/watch?v=... or youtu.be/...) into the box and click Get Thumbnails. Click Download next to the quality you want.
The maxresdefault.jpg thumbnail is the highest quality at 1280×720 pixels. Not all videos have this quality — if it does not load, the tool automatically falls back to hqdefault (480×360).
YouTube thumbnails are technically copyrighted by the video creator. Downloading for personal use (reference, testing, private projects) is generally tolerated. Commercial use without permission may infringe copyright.
maxresdefault: 1280×720 (HD). sddefault: 640×480. hqdefault: 480×360. mqdefault: 320×180. Default (thumbnail 0): 480×360. Frame grabs (1, 2, 3): 120×90.
The video ID is the 11-character string after v= in the URL. For youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ, the ID is dQw4w9WgXcQ. For youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ, the ID follows the slash.
Not all YouTube videos have a maxresdefault thumbnail — older videos, videos without custom thumbnails, and some auto-generated thumbnails only have lower-quality versions available.
If you are creating reaction content or commentary, thumbnails may qualify as fair use. For other uses, contact the original creator. YouTube creators own their thumbnails and can request takedowns.
